Online media Sakartvelo Upirveles Kovlisa (Georgia First) was registered in the Public Registry in September 2022. According to the registry, Vakhtang (Vato) Shakarashvili was appointed as the Director of the organization. Nikoloz Zedgenidze serves as Chairman and the board member, with Rati Abakelia as the third board member.
Vato Shakarashvili was a member of the Tbilisi City Assembly in the 2017 convocation, representing the "Georgian Dream" party. In 2019, he left the party alongside Jaba Jishkariani, attributing to the ruling party 's stance on the appointment of judges. In 2023, Vato Shakarashvili founded the civil movement “Georgia First."
In 2021, Vato Shakarashvili, together with Gia Gachechiladze, also known as "Utsnobi", pledged support for the attackers of journalist Vakho Sanaia declaring that the attackers "must be protected from political media terror."
Vato Shakarashvili's Facebook page "AI IA" was involved in a campaign to discredit the international conference "Glory of Ukraine," which took place in Tbilisi on September 5-6, 2022. The campaign was launched through coordination of government media and Facebook accounts.
On June 17, 2023, Shakarashvili, together with supporters of "Georgia First," arrived in Borjomi to protest the meeting of Zura Japaridze, the leader of party "Girchi - More Freedom," with the youth.
According to the author of the viral video, members of the organization threw stones at the hotel where Japaridze was expected to give a lecture.
The Facebook page of “Georgia First” frequently publishes anti-Western content aimed at criticizing EU institutions, NATO and the administration of the President of the United States of America.
The "Georgia First" portal has previously spread false and manipulative claims. Furthermore, the platform's two Facebook pages (Georgia First NEWS; Georgia First) frequently sponsor Tucker Carlson content, which is primarily excerpts from Carlson's interviews, opinions, and posts published on his various platforms. Tucker Carlson's interview with Putin has been published in full version (1,2) as well as in separate segments (1,2,3).
